U.S. Officials Explore Proposal to Purchase Greenland Amid Trump’s Plans
Plans to potentially acquire Greenland have moved forward, with an estimated valuation prepared by scholars and former U.S. officials as part of President Trump’s initiative to bring the semi-autonomous Danish territory under U.S. influence.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio has been tasked with drafting a formal proposal for the acquisition. However, officials from Denmark and Greenland have firmly rejected claims suggesting the U.S. would acquire the territory “one way or the other.”
Vice President JD Vance and Secretary Rubio are scheduled to meet with Danish and Greenlandic representatives in Washington. The meeting aims to clarify U.S. intentions and discuss the proposals directly with the visiting officials, who seek a better understanding of the administration’s plans.
The development comes amid ongoing discussions about the strategic importance of Greenland in terms of defense, natural resources, and Arctic positioning.
