Trump Launches “Board of Peace,” Permanent Seats Priced at $1 Billion, Sparks UN Rival Speculation

U.S. President Donald Trump has sent a wave of invitations to world leaders to join a newly formed organization called the “Board of Peace,” which is being promoted as an international peace-building body. However, countries seeking a permanent seat on the board would be required to pay $1 billion.

A U.S. official confirmed that the figure represents the cost of permanent membership, while stressing that there is no formal requirement to contribute in order to join. Countries that do not pay the fee would instead receive a three-year, non-permanent membership.

The White House announced the creation of the Board of Peace with significant fanfare on Friday, presenting it as part of Trump’s plan to oversee the reconstruction of the war-ravaged Gaza Strip. However, the draft charter currently being circulated makes no direct reference to Gaza, fueling speculation that the initiative may be aimed at establishing a U.S.-led alternative to the United Nations.

Invitations have reportedly been sent to leaders of Albania, Argentina, Canada, Egypt, France, Hungary, India, Italy, Kazakhstan, and Turkey. Jordan’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that King Abdullah II received an invitation, while the Kremlin said Russian President Vladimir Putin was also invited.

According to a copy of the draft charter published by The Times of Israel, the organization’s mission is “to promote stability, restore dependable and lawful governance, and secure enduring peace in areas affected or threatened by conflict.”
