Putin Says Russia Ready to Contribute $1 Billion to Trump’s Proposed Peace Board Using Frozen Assets
Russian President Vladimir Putin said in Moscow that Russia is prepared to contribute up to $1 billion to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed Board of Peace, potentially using Russian assets that remain frozen under U.S. sanctions. Putin noted that the funds, which were blocked by the previous U.S.
administration, could be allocated toward rebuilding regions damaged by the Russia–Ukraine war—but only after a formal peace agreement is reached.
Speaking during a televised government meeting, Putin emphasized that Russia has not yet formally accepted the proposal. He said the Russian Foreign Ministry has been tasked with reviewing the invitation documents and consulting with Moscow’s strategic partners before issuing an official response.
“The Russian foreign ministry has been charged with studying the documents that were sent to us and to consult on the topic with our strategic partners,” Putin said. “It is only after that we’ll be able to reply to the invitation.”
Putin’s remarks contrast with claims made by Trump, who has stated that Putin has already accepted the offer. However, the Kremlin has maintained that the proposal remains under active consideration.
Several countries—including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates—have reportedly agreed to participate in the proposed board, signaling broader international interest in the initiative despite ongoing diplomatic uncertainty.
